A wise General chooses his battlefield and realizes that he does not have unlimited resources. He also knows where his strength and weaknesses are! We have wasted lives and treasure in Iraq to pursue the Republican’s wild eyed Social Engineering Experiment and Halliburton enrichment program! While the war in Afghanistan was, in my view, totally justifiable we have accomplished our objectives! Bin Laden is dead and there are no more Al Qaeda forces there that can present a threat to us!

We have won World Wars in half the period of time that we have been in Afghanistan! We will never build a Democratic nation there! The only thing we will do is to undermine our national deterrence by destroying our perceived creditability to harm future enemies by bleeding ourselves dry!

IF WE DO NOT LEAVE AFGHANISTAN NOW THEIR POVERTY WILL FOLLOW US HOME WHILE CUT AND RUN CAPITALISTS EXPORT OUR JOBS TO CHINA!

Above Keith Olbermann on his new show at “Current TV” slams it to Obama! I agree with Keith Olbermann completely!

QUESTION: But hasn’t George Bush helped to bring about the spread of Democracy in the Muslim world?

ANSWER: No he supported the overthrown dictators in Yemen and even worse in Egypt! But then again our national policy is so tied up to Israel that Hosni Mubarak received vast amounts of military aid! That aid was even used against the pro-democratic forces in Egypt! Unlike the Tea Party the “Muslim Springtime” is a real grass roots movement!

The Afghanistan War Is Undermining Our National Security

Dictators do not fear being overthrown and replaced with a Democracy! Dictators simply fear being overthrown – PERIOD! When we changed the definition of “victory” in both Afghanistan and Iraq to not simply overthrowing the enemy regime but doing nation building we undermined our national deterrence!

How is that you ask? Because our strength is “Shock and Awe” not long term “Boots and Troops”! We can debate forever the merits of using “Shock and Awe” but even Vice President Biden was a convert to “Shock and Awe” as he favored the use of cruise missiles and drones!

When rogue regimes see us tied down for years in Iraq and Afghanistan they know they are free to develop nuclear weapons! Our perceived threat is lost! We lose our national deterrence by extensive occupations!

To my fellow liberals let me be clear! We live in an imperfect world! There will ALWAYS be collateral damage! In World War II we killed over 100,000 civilians in Germany with non-nuclear aerial bombing in the Dresden area alone! We liberals believe in the “Doctrine of Ethical Relativity” when it comes to other areas!

Nothing hurt the Progressive cause more than in 2001 seeing some talk about conducting a World Court operation against Al Qaeda in Afghanistan! For Christ’s sake give me a break! It is that lack of testosterone that brings about Republican Victories!

The same lack of testosterone we see today in Barrack Obama! Whether it be having the guts to just say we are now finished in Afghanistan since Bin Laden is dead or in confronting the Republicans here at home on the Public Option, the Bush Tax Cuts or a real stimulus package instead of the castrated one he gave us!

Please don’t insult my intelligence by saying that Obama gave us a job stimulus package! We gave 160 billion to save AIG while we spent a mere 45 billion for infrastructure projects! We need a jobs program with testosterone!

American love ACTION FIGURES! President Obama should be decisive! He should have just declared victory in Afghanistan and declare we are now pulling out fully! We can always use our shock and awe technology if needed without long term extensive “troops and boots”!

Mr. President get some testosterone!

Declare “Victory” in Afghanistan and stop defending their opium producing regime!

Can we now turn our national attention to the CUT AND RUN CORPORATIONS that ship our jobs (both blue and white collar) overseas, frequently to our enemies, while the bleeding hearts for corporate America rally with their cry to “Comfort The Comfortable” in the top 1%!

We need a Constitutional Amendment to end corporate interference in our election processes!

We need to roll back not just the Bush Tax Cuts but the Reagan and even the JFK Tax Cuts!

Progressives must face reality! Yes we have an historical President who is the first African American! But get over it he is no liberal!

We need Senator Bernie Sanders for President in 2012!

First we had companies that were to big to fail, now do we have Generals who are to big to fail? General McChrystal may be important to our war effort but he is dispensable! I do not believe army generals are to be puppets of the President. But there is a Constitutional forum for a General to disagree with the President in public! That forum is before a Congressional Committee. I always resented the way generals would act as if they belonged to Bush and spoke of the “Government” as being the same as the “administration”!

It is important to remember that all military officers receive their commission from the Congress of the United States not the President. The President is the Commander – In Chief. They are placed under him but if called before Congress they MUST answer questions of the Congress that gave them their commission as officers!

Ed Schultz did a great job on his show arguing for McChrystal’s dismissal! I also like the way he pre-empted the right wing on the “patriotism” front. See the video below.

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

However I fear that President Obama will let him stay because he emphasized that the troops are the most important thing. Well if they are then maybe we should pull them out of Afghanistan! Yes I was for Obama up scaling the war in Afghanistan last year! But now I must agree that our time there is nearing an end. I do not wish to see American troops die so that opium production profits can go to the Afghan Government!

The time to win the war was years ago. But Bush valued Iraq more! Now we are only making things worse. We can use predator drones and airstrikes rather then continue a worthless occupation. Besides the cost is destroying our economy!

But some will argue we should stay in Afghanistan for humanitarian reasons. I don’t want to hear about saving the people of nation “x” (fill in Iraq, Afghanistan). If saving innocent people from Muslim terrorists was the issue then what about Darfur?

It is essential for our national security that once we do not get bogged down in an endless war. Please read my post concerning how Bush undermined our national security by staying in Iraq. When I wrote that post I was against the Iraq War but still supported the Afghan War. Now I believe that we must move on from Afghanistan else we actually damage our national security!

Briefly the reason is this:

Adversaries like Iran and North Korea do not fear being over throw by Democratic forces! They simply fear being overthrown. By being bogged down in Iraq and/or Afghanistan we undermine our military deterrent in relation to Iran and North Korea. We need to understand our strengths and weaknesses! We excel in our military technology! That is to say “shock and awe”! We do not want to engage in extended occupations!

Our threat potential comes from our definition of victory being simply the destruction of an enemy regime not it’s replacement with a democratic one as desirable as that would be!

General McChrystal must go! As I mentioned above I do believe there is a proper forum for a general to disagree with a President but the general cannot take the initiative it must come from Congressional inquiry! I do not want to give a future Republican President the power to silence the input of a general to our Congress which gave the general his commission in the first place! But that is not the issue here. The issue is the General taking the “initiative” not the Congress!

The time has come to leave Afghanistan! At least we did not follow Bush and turn over our port operations to Dubai! The time has come to worry about our economy!

I could not post after hearing President Obama announce the troop increase in Afghanistan as I am still perplexed. Well this is just another fine mess that George Bush and his fellow travelers have gotten us into! I absolutely believe the invasion of Afghanistan was the right thing to do! But the war should have been wrapped up by now and Osama bin Laden should have been hanged years ago! Instead this nation had to endure Dick Cheney lecturing us that President Obama was “dithering” on what to do on the Afghan War!

Yes President Obama has “dithered” but it wasn’t in relation to the Afghan War. We Progressives are tired of President Obama dithering on pointing the finger at the prior administration! But then again President Obama dithered when Sarah Palin accused him of being a pal of terrorists while she has vast connections if not prior out right membership in the Alaskan Independence Party! Amazing isn’t it that some Congressional Democrats can muster the courage to object to the more relevant Afghan War but let George Bush rail road America with two more years of the Iraq War while we had the majority in Congress!

As I see it if we don’t take some action in Afghanistan then Pakistan may go under.

Since Bush wanted to engage in his vast Republican Iraqi “Social Engineering Experiment” (to use the conservative lingo they used against us liberals years ago) Afghan Opium production is through the ceiling and it is funding terrorism! Ah but we will meet the challenge with more private corporation contractors! The Republicans should be blamed for the new deficit spending of the Obama Administration!

Will they investigate? If they do they will put Joe Liebermann in charge of the hearings! What’s that sound we hear from the Democratic Party Majority in Congress and from the White House?

What we are hearing is their mantra! The sound of “MEOW”!

Well this liberal Euro style Social Democrat does not believe in the orthodoxy of corporate greed nor the masochistic “I hate America” political orthodoxy of the politically correct. Just think of the dilemma of some of my liberal friends when the issue turns to Afghanistan! Now for the advantage of getting re-elected the Afghan President has pushed a law that sets back the rights of woman in his country. True the law only effects the Shiite section not the larger Sunni section of Afghanistan.

My anti-Bush credentials are impeccable. Just read this blog and you can see that for yourself. But I do enjoy showing my fellow liberals their tendency to create a new orthodoxy.

Just what is a politically correct liberal to do in the case of this set back in Afghanistan? On the one hand they do love to blame America for all the world’s troubles. Well then not everything is the fault of America there is also that nasty nasty religion, you know “Christianity!” Ah yes they actually advocate “having dominion over the earth”, as stated in the Book of Genesis! After all Islam is a religion of “peeeeeeece” which is the mantra of the politically correct.

I know, I know, I know the Muslims did not generate the disparaging of woman they LEARNED IT FROM US CHRISTIANS! Yes that’s it! – Wrong!

Now we have been told that we are not going to get involved in “nation building”. So we will hold our noses and fight in Afghanistan and fight for our national interests like we did in Vietnam. George Bush, I am afraid to say, actually learned the lessons of Vietnam and tried to insure that if we fought in the third world we would not back some one like General Ky whom we backed in Vietnam. But that also has it’s problems as we have learned.

Yes I am for pulling out of Iraq and was only for removing Saddam Hussein not the nation building that followed. George Bush slowly realized he could not do it and our model of democracy in Iraq slowly was lowered.

But my point is this! What are we to do in Afghanistan? Should we blame this new law on Bush? No we really cannot since he is out of office. Maybe we should adapt the liberal idea of CULTURAL RELATIVISM in relation to the Muslim treatment of woman! You know the idea that right is not right and is only due to our stupid American ethno-centricism! “Bad, Bad Bad American”!

As I said I am a liberal Euro style Social Democrat. So don’t try to rationalize your cognitive dissonance between liberal ideals on the one hand and the masochistic blame America philosophy of the politically correct for everything on the other. Sometimes the Republicans do have it right. There are people out there in this world who do not care what type of “karma” they generate. North Korea and Iran’s leaders are among them!

We are fighting EVIL in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Not to mention Iran and North Korea! China and Russia are not that cool either. We could see one of our cities go up into a mushroom cloud because we did not take Decisive action! Oh dear but that would be like “having dominion” and we liberals would love so much better to live and wallow in guilt being “reactors” rather than proactive in world affairs!

Yes there is an axis of evil! No I do not believe in Satan but I do believe in fighting what is evil! I am proud that our nation has, as yes Donald Rumsfield said, “Shock and awe military technology”. I am not ashamed that my nation has it and I don’t want others to have it.

We need to take out Al Qaeda! I believe in the Bush Doctrine (OH MOTHER GODDESS FORGIVE ME!) but Bush misapplied his own doctrine by wasting Americas’s resources by “staying “ in Iraq. We need to:

Use our superior technology to wipe out Al Qaeda.

Allow COVERT CIA operations to take out the beloved leader in North Korea. (What you want them to have nukes and a second Korean War).

Stop the Cut and Run Capitalists from selling our military technology to America’s enemies!

Pressure Afghanistan to liberalize their laws.

The time to be decisive is now! America does not need the Republicans to be the torch holders of defending American Values! If we liberals do not then the Republicans will regain their prestige with the American people and our nation will never enjoy the fruits of a American stlye Euro economy!

While the bleeding hearts of the Republican Party whine for corporate America the time has come to give our soldiers a G I Bill that will let them have an education and future! The time has come to support our troops. End the Republican Social Engineering Experiment in Iraq!

No doubt our Arab allies, the great democratic nations of the Muslim world will regret that Iraq does not rise up to their great level of democracy!
As the opium crop blossoms into ever higher world records in Afghanistan guess where the money raised from this crop is going to go? It is going to terrorists who threaten our homeland yet Bush and his fellow traveler John McCain are pre-occupied with the social engineering experiment in Iraq! The American Middle Class – our great Silent Majority demands that the evil triad of Afghan opium money, Pakistani rogue nuclear scientists and Al Qaeda Central in the Afghan – Pakistan border region be stopped.

Instead of worrying about trivial flag pins on lapels the Silent Majority wants America’s service men and woman to have a G I Bill and have it now! Let’s win the war against Al Qaeda Central in Afghanistan and Pakistan by stopping this circus in Iraq!

Mean while let’s look at the great “fruits” of the Republican SOCIAL ENGINEERING EXPERIMENT that McCain would like to continue for one hundred years! Why look who is coming to dinner! (See the Video Below)

Look who is landing in Bagdad in the video above! Why if that isn’t the ever cuddly Iranian President Ahmadinejad who is arming militias in Iraq to kill our troops! Where is he pray tell? Why he is visiting his chum the Prime Minister of Iraq, al-Maliki! But then again he is only returning the favor as al-Maliki has visited him!

This is what we are fighting for!

This is what our nation has sacrificed its’ brave troops for!

This is what the Social Engineering Experts in the Republican Party have wasted our resources on while our own CIA tells us that the next attack from Al Qaeda will come from the Al Qaeda homeland in the Pakistani – Afghan border country!

But the Iraqis want us to leave! This according to a poll taken by our own State Department!

The Iraqi President wants us to go! What do Bush and his fellow traveler McCain not understand?

Yet John McCain who doesn’t give a krap about the genocide in Darfur and doesn’t even care about CUT AND RUN CAPITALISTS who are investing in Vietnam, the nation that once tortured him, lectures us about turning a blind eye to the Al Qaeda Homeland in the border regions of Pakistan and even vows to follow Al Qaeda to hell and back but not to their homeland! Yet he criticizes Barrack Obama for wanting to take strategic high tech action where it would count!

Senator McCain is so afraid about genocide in Iraq! When will he and his fellow travelers ever learn you cannot impose democracy on those who are not ready for it! Oh my I made a anti-war statement and a politically incorrect one at that! – Good this is a blog by a progressive Democrat not a knee jerk PC Liberal.

Let’s understand something. Four thousand troops dead for a vital war is actually very small. We lost far more in the Civil War and World War II. But can you imagine five years after the fall of Berlin and that city still having snipers? Can you imagine Germany in 1950 with key cities falling into the hands of insurgents?

That is the situation we have today because we never had enough troops to perform an occupation. But then why should we? Remember MISSION ACCOMPLISHED? As this REPUBLICAN SOCIAL ENGINEERING EXPERIMENT continues to divert us from the War on Terror and our economy is falling from carrying this unnecessary war debt, let us take heart that under our President Taliban opium production in Afghanistan is at record world levels. This drug money will be used by the REAL Al Qaeda in their homeland in next door Pakistan! With this opium money financing renegade Pakistani nuclear scientists and training camps in the Al Qaeda homeland of border Pakistan we can look forward to a mushroom cloud over our cities. So enjoy the diversion in Iraq. But don’t worry just look at the great work George Bush did securing our national borders and ports! Now you can sleep peacefully at 3AM!

The time has come for America’s Silent Majority – our great Middle Class to stand up and stop this social engineering experiment in Iraq and return to the War on Terrorism! God Bless America!

Well it appears that while George Bush and his fellow travelers continue to involve our nation in their “social engineering” experiment in Iraq, our national preparation level has sunk to an all time low! Well look at the bright side at least our nation’s ports are not being managed by the United Arab Emirates. Thank God George Bush was not able to advance the cause of upper class “portfolio security” ahead of “port security”! Our Army Reserve and National Guard are being bled dry in Iraq years after “Mission Accomplished” while opium production is reaching all time high levels in Afghanistan and that nation falls further into Al Qaeda control! The combination of opium profits for Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, renegade nuclear scientists in Pakistan and our unsecured borders do not seem to upset the “Great Decider” and his minions in the Republican Party.

Some members of the Vermont Legislature have decided to pass a bill that would declare President Bush’s authorization to call up the Vermont National Guard to be void as the authorization was for a mission that was already accomplished! Senator McCain apparently does not know about “Mission Accomplished”. Al Qaeda in Afghanistan apparently is also not an issue for McCain. The question is for those in the Republican Primary:

What about a STRICT CONSTRUCTIONALIST interpretation of the Constitution? What gives George Bush the right to create a “new unauthorized mission” for our troops? You know the very National Guard and Army Reserve that he never fully attended? McCain and his fellow travelers are going tor the “feels good” solution! The problem is we are a nation of laws. But then again what the hell we have no national borders anyway the laws that regulated them are violated daily? But corporate America needs cheap labor! These right wing fear mongers talk about genocide occurring in Iraq. What about what is going on in:

Darfur

Kenya

And soon perhaps Chad

Yet these “champions of democracy” have turned a deaf ear to the cries of the oppressed in these lands! The time has come for our nation’s middle class to demand accountability from those who hold office in our land!

Yet again President Bush tries to make the case that the war in Iraq is the same as the war on terrorism! What drives me crazy is some of the guys I work with have a knee jerk reaction in support of this President! The same President Bush who bragged to his college professor that he did not have to do his time in the National Guard! Yet he takes advantage of the duty and patriotism of Army Reserve and National Guard members NOT behaving as he did!

Bush gets away with this because he supports “kicking ass” as he said in Australia. The problem is that many Democrats are afraid to “enjoy” the fact that we really did kick ass in Afghanistan initially! Sometimes it takes more than mere objective logic. The hell with being politically correct! Let me repeat a maxim that my fellow Democrats must learn!

—————————————————————————————————

“With terrorists if you do not kick ass then you are perceived as kissing ass”!

______________________________________________________________

You can look down your nose at this statement but the fact is Americans believe in this and I have to admit I do also! The question is however “whose ass are we kicking with this war in Iraq?” Certainly not Al Qaeda! We are not making our nation more secure, even General Petraeus in his testimony admitted that. Our nation excels at “shock and awe” which uses our superior technological capabilities! George Bush has changed this to “bleed and gore” in an occupation that never had enough troops and serves no national objective! Why are we involved in this civil war in Iraq? Especially when Afghanistan is growing record opium crops that will be used to finance terrorism against our homeland! Meanwhile Bin Laden runs free in the mountains of the Afghan – Pakistan border! This is where we should now be “kicking ass” before we get struck again.

Bush has “boundary issues”. He cannot defend our own borders where 3,000 people cross illegally each day nor for that matter the Iraqi – Iranian border where weapons are crossing to kill our brave troops! Don’t forget our ports where most cargo containers are still not inspected six years after the attack of 9-11! Oh but Bush did want to relieve us of that responsibility by turning over our major ports to a company from the United Arab Emirates! Then this idiot has the nerve to talk about terrorists following us home from Iraq!

But we can all breathe easy now that Bush has just recently opened further our wide open borders to Mexican trucks! Yes please tell us Mr. Bush, once again how the terrorists are going to follow us home if we leave Iraq! Yet while under your watch Mr. Bush, Afghan opium production has grown to world record highs with the money going to Al Qaeda! Yes tell us how they are going to follow us home Mr. President while next door to this massive terrorist fundrasing operation some of the nice nuclear scientists in next door Pakistan have extremists beliefs and want to kill us! With the marriage of Afghan opium money and Pakistani nuclear smarts plus our wide open borders, does anyone see the mushroom cloud over our cities coming? Ah but I am being an alarmist!

What makes me sleep secure in my bed is the knowledge that our national security is backed by Michael Chertoff! With Bush and his side kick, Michael Chertoff, at the head of our Homeland Security, and Chertoff’s great tack record, surely a mushroom cloud over New York City is indeed a forgone return on idiocy! So my fellow Americans when the dirty nuclear dust cloud starts to fall on us remember the FALLING CHADS as this is indeed a return on idiocy! God help America!

Ah yes it is summer time in Afghanistan. You remember Afghanistan, where under Bush, we allowed Osama Bin Ladin to escape into the mountains of our dear friend Pakistan! With friends like that who needs enemies! But then again where are we going to get the resources for our H1-B Visa program so corporate America can lower the salaries of computer and technical professionals without Pakistan (and India)? Well I will leave that for another post! It seems like only last year I was writing about the wonderful bumper crop of opium that Afghanistan produced! You know the drug that is killing our youth and financing, in part the terrorism of Al Qaeda! While George Bush continues his obsession with Iraq, Afghanistan continues to sink into decay. But this year their world renowned expertise in raising opium even surpassed last year’s crop! Mission accomplished!

This blogger agrees with conservatives in some respects. In the War on Terror our nation needs to take vigorous, aggressive and decisive action! But our theater of operations should be Afghanistan not Iraq! Instead of merely kicking Saddam out of power our President decided to engage in a Social Engineering Experiment! Meanwhile the real war is still not won in Afghanistan. Opium is being raised at record levels yet again this year. It will addict our youth and finance the terrorists!

This blog tries to advance the cause of the Middle Class and a vigorous Pro-American Populist political agenda! Bush has got to be the biggest misfit we have had as President this century! I say that because while I am a Democrat, I believe in some of his ideas! Let us examine how he has taken good ideas and done a “katrina” on each of them:

Missile Defense System instead of sole reliance on M.A.D. Great idea but don’t build it in Europe where you will make an enemy of Russia! Besides if it is built there it sends the wrong signal to Iran! While we say we will not tolerate Iran having nukes this system in Europe PRESUMES WE WILL! What message is Bush sending our enemies?

The doctrine of pre-emptive strike! I believe this is a good idea with rouge states. But look at how Bush has worked against his own doctrine! We lose creditability by defining victory as not simply the overthrowing of a dictator like Hussein but adding the criteria he must be replaced by a democracy. Good luck! Iran doesn’t have to fear we will move against her as Iraq will tie us up for years! Hell we cannot even secure Bagdad!

The use of military force to KICK ASS after 9-1. Good idea just the wrong implementation of it!

The use of strong arm tactics to induce terrorists to talk! Even Allan Dershowitzthe, the notorius liberal lawyer, has said he would back this as long as a warrant was obtained! However just packing anyone off to Guantanamo is not the answer. Also what guarantee do we have that future Presidents would not use such a power against American citizens who disagreed with them?

By the way why isn’t the news media zeroing in on the bumper crop of opium in Afghanistan? I bet many of you reading this are thinking that I am referring to 2006! Yes there was a bumper crop then also. However the U.N. has stated Afghanistan has done it again in 2007! Yet no one in Congress is screaming that our troops and tax dollars are being wasted while Afghanistan has a bumper crop of opium yet again! Here we have an incidence of the news media acting almost if it is an agent of the neo-cons! The news media is also only now discovering the genocide in Darfur! No I don’t really believe the news media is pro-conservative! But imagine how the conservatives would be screaming if it were the other way around!

While Afghanistan crumbles and our borders remain wide open with our ports having only 5% of their cargo inspected, this bozo tells us that Iraq is the center for the war on terror! Imagine if we had allowed him to go through with his Dubai Ports deal? Meanwhile the Cut and Run Capitalists at Halliburton have moved their corporate CEO’s HQ to Dubai!

The time has come for America’s Middle Class (and those who aspire to be) to take our nation back from these effete snobs who squander the lives of our youths and our capital. God Bless America!
