Rachel Maddow Uncovers Republican Psychological Warfare

On a recent episode of the “Rachel Maddow Show” the issue was Republicans dodging answers in a peculiar way. Rachel Maddow used her classic good humor to make these techniques into a book for children.

Actually since I am older than Rachel Maddow and a former psychology student I recognized the techniques immediately!

  1. Broken Record
  2. Fogging

These techniques can be found in the book, “When I Say No I Feel Guilty” by Dr. Manuel J. Smith. The book was published in 1975 by both Dial and latter Bantham Publishing. The book emphasises using persistence in these techniques and the Republicans in the video did just that. Time to expose them for feeling guilty! These techniques are not accidental. Apparently the Republican Party is giving it’s members training in psychological warfare against the middle class.

Yes dear reader this humble Progressive blogger is also using psychological techniques. I love using Republican right wing rhetoric from the Vietnam Nixon era but with a Progressive Twist.

Here are some nice things to tell your right wing friends and use psychological warfare!

  1. Don’t talk merely about the former Iraq War but say, “the vast right wing social engineering experiment in Iraq”.
  2. Don’t talk merely about off shoring of American jobs but instead talk about “the vile CUT AND RUN CAPITALISTS who ship our jobs, wealth and technology to America’s enemies while they join in singing the Globalization Internationale“!
  3. Don’t merely talk about desiring to regulate Wall Street but instead tell your right wing friends and family, “we live in an era of licentious permissiveness were the effete snobs of privilege are seeking grandiose payments for wrecking our national economy with a sense of entitlement! We need law and order on Wall Street to end this era of licentiousness permissiveness!
  4. Go on the offense and talk about the “corporate news media“. Turn their argument against them by using Sarah Palin and her connections to the Alaskan Independence Party as an example.

In a way the younger crowd today is taking the Nixon terminology of the “Silent Majority” and recapturing the center from the right wing with the term “99 percent”. Excellent! The examples I cited above are merely the start. We need to fight the right wing news media! Good job Rachel!
