Among my fellow Progressives there is an undercurrent of glee now that Newt Gingrich has won the South Carolina primary. There are two reasons for this. First it means that the Republican circular firing squad will continue and provide more video clips for Democratic Party ads this fall! The second reason is that many Democrats believe Newt Gingrich would be easier to defeat than Mitt Romney! I like the first argument but am wary of the second.
I believe Newt Gingrich could be a stronger candidate than Mitt Romney.
That is because of the “testosterone factor”. Americans love “action figures” not wimps! If Mitt Romney became the Republican candidate then this November we would be facing the battle of the wimps!
Just imagine a debate between Barrack Obama and Mitt Romney! The nation’s male population would suffer a 90% reduction in testosterone if subjected to listening to these two go at it! Remember I am a Progressive and a European style Social Democrat. I do NOT support Newt Gingrich! The issue I am discussing here is not who I want to be President! That would be Senator Bernie Sanders, Howard Dean or even Buddy Roemer!
The issue I am discussing here is who is the best communicator and has the most testosterone. That answer is simple – Newt Gingrich! Just look at his recent performance at the SC GOP debate.

It is reputed by Thom Hartmann in his book, “Cracking The Code” that Newt Gingrich is an expert on NLP or Neuro-Linguistic-Programming! When confronted on the issue of his serial marriages Newt Gingrich uses a page from Joseph Goebbels the late Nazi minister of propaganda! Goebbels advocated confrontation and the big lie being repeated over and over.
Newt Gingrich loves to use the lie of the nasty news media. He argues that personal attacks in the news media have forced good people out of politics. This from the man who attacked Obama! Remember all the talk about “death panels”? I believe the debate moderator should have responded to Newt Gingrich and asked to see his birth certificate! After all while the name “Barrack” is out of the mainstream of American first names so is the name “Newt”!
Instead the moderator stood meekly by while Gingrich spewed the usual nonsense about the “liberal news media”! As he did this the Republican audience all joined in self-righteous loud applause! They love being portrayed as the poor innocent victims of the nasty liberal news media!
Yet FoxNews churned out an endless stream of propaganda about “death panels” and Newt Gingrich was a part of that. (See the video below). Not to mention the lie about 42 warships accompanying Barrack Obama on his trip to India that FoxNews repeated endlessly as if Obama were wasting tax payer money on a mysterious flotilla!
The hypocrisy of Newt Gingrich
Newt Gingrich was “so” appalled that his sex life was brought up when we have other issues facing our nation.
Yet he and his fellow travelers subjected this nation to the impeachment of Bill Clinton when we had far more important issues facing our nation. Furthermore the issue of Bill Clinton lying about Monica Lewinsky could have been dealt with after President Clinton left office. Newt Gingrich is not simply a hypocrite but a podium bully! The problem is that the news media are wimps just like Obama!

Wow I wonder didn’t God tell him to leave his adulterous affair and go back to his wife who had multiple sclerosis or perhaps the first wife who had cancer! Newt Gingrich loves to attack gay marriage! Instead he has become a champion of serial marriage! He was even having an affair while he was attacking Bill Clinton! In one interview Newt Gingrich claims to have started the affair due to his patriotic habit of working late!
In the debate he called his prior wife a liar yet talks about confessing and being reconciled with God! But Newt Gingrich has testosterone in more ways than one! He has turned the debates around, at least for Republicans in conservative South Carolina! He portrayed himself as the victim and the audience loved him!
The problem for us progressives is that Newt Gingrich has no problem rising to the role of “Pontifex Maximus”.
He is willing to sit on the throne and to become the “DEFINER – IN – CHIEF”. I wish Obama could learn to do that! Just look at how Gingrich “defined” the issue of his divorce in the GOP SC debate! He put the moderator on the defensive! Gingrich is willing to show testosterone! Americans want an ACTION FIGURE not a WIMP!
The issue here is not values but the powerlessness that Americans feel in their personal lives! We live in a society that practices not just trickle-down economics but pathetic trickle down identity! (see my article on this) Americans will actually put their own class interest aside and internalize the mythos that the free market is best without government intervention”!
Americans know that things are not good!.
Further they know that only a WARRIOR has a chance to effect “change we can believe in” while a wimp is powerless in the face of history and only worthy of contempt! Be that wimp Barrack Obama or Mitt Romney!
The solutions that the warrior Newt Gingrich gives may not be the solutions most Americans want. But Americans do not want to feel like wimps in the face of economic conditions! They want someone who stands for ACTION and emulates TESTOSTERONE!
A wimp will never take bold actions. A warrior will! Their unconscious hope is that eventually a warrior will modify his actions to accomplish their goals. A wimp only has goals that will NEVER be accomplished!
But what if the warrior does not change his actions to meet the goals of the electorate?
Americans will still choose the warrior! Because Americans want to maintain a self-identity of being a “warrior” and have only contempt for wimps! This is why Newt Gingrich could be a far more serious contender than Mitt Romney ever could. Further I believe Newt Gingrich could beat Barrack Obama!
Again I am not advocating for Newt Gingrich. I am trying to alert my fellow Progressives to the fight that lies ahead. In part #2 of this series I will outline a strategy to advance Social Democratic Progressive values. Note I did not say I will advance a strategy to advance the candidacy of Barrack Obama!
The road will be hard ahead for us Progressives. But the choice is clear!

I think you really underestimate Barack Obama when you call him a wimp. I do know that he is a strong debater. Not only that, he’s not afraid to take bold action; do you call the risk he took in sending in a special team into Pakistan to take out Osama bin Laden the actions of a wimp?
You’re absolutely right; Newt has got a lot of testosterone but he’s also someone who lets himself fall into a trap every time by his big mouth. Obama is someone who knows how to choose his words carefully and use them well.
I don’t think we have anything to worry about; Newt will get in his points and then Obama will move in for the kill. For one thing; Obama has got his record, which is quite good compared to Newt’s. Obama also has high character. Newt will try and attack that character and by doing so, he will lay himself open to an attack.
You also have to remember, the audience is going to be different. Independents, which are the very people that Newt needs to convince, aren’t going to go for these right-wing talking points that he uses so well. So be prepared to see Obama knock it out of the ballpark and leave Newt looking like the crap that he is.

Thanks for the input. Believe me I was for Barrack Obama in 2008. As per his killing Osama bin Laden I agree he had the guts. Don’t forget if it were Bush we would never hear the end of it. The problem is that Obama needs to start taking credit for it rather than just hope folks will remember that it was him. Most Americans could not put their finger on a map and say “this is Iraq” and “that is Afghanistan”!
What I mean is that most Americans just lump both nations together and since Obama was always against the war in Iraq they then assume that he was against the operations in Afghanistan. Believe me Americans are stupid. I can say that as I am not running for office. Which brings me to why they will vote for Gingrich!
Americans want “action figures”. Gingrich is an action figure. As I mentioned in a prior post I did give credit to Obama for wasting Osama bin laden. But why didn’t Barrack Obama stand up to Joe Liebermann and Ben Nelson? The great failure of Obama is that he is a great orator but he does not want to use the Presidental bully pulpit to effect change.
FoxNews feared him in the Presidency. But Obama just put his skills aside and decided that he wanted to form some sort of “Grand Compromise”. He allowed the Tea Party to go unchecked. It is only due to the Occupy Wall Street Movement that Obama is now standing up. I expect now he will give a good state of the union speech but it is a too late for me.
We need a 28th Amendment that will separate corporation and state. As I have pointed out in many posts Barrack Obama got more money from Goldman Sachs than any candidate in 2008! Harry Reid also has some connection to Big Pharma! I actually could not believe that until I looked it up on OpenSecrets.org!
Believe me I would like nothing better than to back Obama. But I fear what he will give away if he is re-elected.

I understand where you’re coming from but I still have to disagree with you. Sure, Obama has stayed quiet at times when we wish he would speak up, and at times he has compromised way more than we progressives would like him to. But Brian, I also believe we have to give him some benefit of a doubt and also realize that it’s always wise to pick your battles carefully. If he went on the defensive about many of the attacks he’s had in the past from the Tea Party and Gingrich and all the other politicians and political pundits, he would find himself becoming more like them and lowering himself to their standards. Instead he has chosen a quieter and softer path, but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been a stronger path.
Let’s not forget what Teddy Roosevelt said “Walk softly but carry a big stick” which is exactly what Obama has done. Republicans put him down and says all manners of negative things about him, and while they’re doing it, he’s killing Osama bin Laden and finding ways to get around the Republicans in Congress to get some things done to help the American people.
Do think of it this way when it comes to election time; you can go out and vote for whoever the Republicans finally choose, or you can stay home and not cast your vote at all as a protest vote, but what happens if Obama doesn’t win a second term and instead we get Romney or Gingrich as president. Do you really think things are going to get better under their watch?
I do believe that things are looking up now and I do believe that Obama will get a second term (God protect him if he does). I’m not so sure we’ll get a Democratic-controlled congress though and if not, will that mean more gridlock for another four years? But, what other choices do we have?
Robme and Getrich are dead in the water. Ron Paul does not have a chance is what the MSM likes to pump into our brains. Ron Paul has the best shot at knocking off Obama. The MSM knows this. Robme and Getrich will not touch RP in the debates. Why? They know they can not win without his supporters. I got news for them they are no going to get those supporters no matter what they do. As I said they are dead in the water. If the GOP wants a prayer when it comes to defeating Obama they best get their crap together and go with RP.

Actually I prefer Buddy Roemer. Yes even though I am a Social Democrat and Buddy Roemer is a fiscal conservative, I recognize the need to keep my idealism on the earth. Buddy Roemer has demonstrated he will not be a puppet of the special interests by the way he raises his money and his support for the separation of corporation and state.
Ron Paul does have some good points. However I can never forgive hearing his son, Rand Paul talk about the need for job creation by lowering the minimum wage. These Republicans are the same people who will wag their finger at the hospital emergency room saying that those who don’t have health insurance should be more “self reliant”!
How is that when you make minimum wage or even higher? We will ALWAYS need workers in the resturant field, land keepers, and other low wage jobs. These occupation always need to be filled. Don’t these people have rights to a better life.
I do not want to burden the small business person with premiums! These businessmen are running on a thin margin to begin. But we still want their goods services? Thus IMHO we need to have Universal Single Payer Health Care.
The “freedom” of my social betters does not translate into the “freedom” of the middle class.

Anyone remember what the news-media did to Howard Dean? They made a big to do that he gave a scream! The result is that smeared his chances to win the nomination and we got the boring John Kerry! I actually remember Rick Santorum giving a similiar scream after the Iowa straw poll but the news media did not attack him! Liberals need to scream that we have pro-conservative news media biases because we do!
Some folks in #OWS are using the term “corporate newsmedia”! I think that is a good idea!
No one in the history of the U.S. has ever been shafted by the News Media like Ron Paul has. I mean they have went out of their way to shaft this guy.
